Grand-Bassam : l’échafaudage de la cathédrale Saint-Esprit s’effondre, plusieurs blessés
A serious accident occurred on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the renovation site of the Saint-Esprit Cathedral in Grand-Bassam. The scaffolding under construction suddenly collapsed, causing panic and injuries among the workers present.
According to a preliminary report, 11 people were injured , several of them seriously. Emergency services, dispatched quickly, evacuated the victims to local hospitals.
For its part, the diocese of Grand-Bassam, through the voice of the vicar general father Jean Kouassi Bonzo, indicates that 15 injured people were taken care of following the accident.
Fortunately, no loss of human life has been reported at this stage.
An investigation has been launched to determine the causes of this collapse, while safety measures are underway to prevent any further incidents on the construction site.
The construction project for the Holy Spirit Cathedral, led by the Diocese of Grand-Bassam, is a major undertaking for the local Catholic community.
