Sécurité routière : la digue du barrage de Taabo pointée du doigt après des drames
The mayor of Taabo, Bernard Beugré Kouadio , is raising the alarm about the safety of the Taabo hydroelectric dam dam , which was commissioned in 1979. According to him, the lack of lighting on this road , used daily by residents to connect several villages to the town, is the cause of recent fatal accidents .
The latest tragedy, which occurred on November 15, 2025, claimed the life of a person using the seawall, recalling a previous death in similar circumstances. The mayor lamented that despite several attempts to secure the installation of lighting , no concrete measures have yet been taken. "Lighting this seawall would help reduce fatal accidents and protect the lives of the population," he insisted.
The Taabo Dam, crucial for the region's energy supply, is approximately 8 kilometers long and serves as an important transportation route for local residents. The lack of visibility at night, combined with the traffic, makes the dam particularly dangerous.
Impact studies, particularly those for the Singrobo-Ahouaty hydroelectric project , had already highlighted the need for safety measures on the dam to minimize the risk of accidents. However, lighting has not yet been installed, leaving users vulnerable.
Faced with this situation, local authorities and the population are calling for urgent intervention to secure the dike and prevent further tragedies.
