CANADA/Séisme au sein de la police de Toronto : un scandale de corruption sans précédent
The Canadian police force is reeling from what appears to be one of the largest corruption scandals in its history. On Wednesday, a major operation led to the arrest of some 30 people, including at least seven officers from the Toronto Police Service (TPS) .
The investigation, dubbed "Project South," has uncovered extremely serious criminal activities. According to various police and media sources, the officers involved are facing charges including:
The heart of this corruption appears to be linked to the towing industry, a sector plagued by violence in Toronto. In 2024, conflicts between towing companies resulted in 63 incidents involving firearms , representing approximately 13% of gun crime in the city.
This is not the first time the link between police and towing has been highlighted. As early as 2020, several officers were suspended for providing encrypted radios to drivers or for suspected fraud and breach of trust.
The operation isn't limited to Toronto, as officers from other police forces have also reportedly been handcuffed. For now:
