A tragic accident involving a school bus and four vehicles claimed the life of a woman and left several injured on Wednesday afternoon on Route 108 in the Eastern Townships.

The facts

The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. near Card Road in the municipality of Bury. According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), it appears to have been a series of simultaneous collisions .

Human toll

One death: A woman in her sixties succumbed to her injuries after being taken to hospital.
One person seriously injured: A man around 80 years old is currently in critical condition.
Six people sustained minor injuries: Other people involved were hospitalized for minor injuries.
The bus driver escaped unharmed. It should be noted that the vehicle was not carrying any students at the time of the impact.

The ongoing investigation

According to initial findings by SQ spokesperson Élizabeth Marquis-Guy, the bus driver was not responsible for the accident. She reportedly maneuvered to try to avoid the pile-up of vehicles in front of her.

A collision investigation expert is currently on site to analyze the scene and determine the exact causes of this pileup.
