A personal and public attack

A video, briefly shown on the White House YouTube channel before being removed, captured the disparaging remarks of the American president:

"Macron, whose wife treats him extremely badly... he's still recovering from the punch he took to the jaw."

This remark seems to echo a sequence that went viral last May, in which Brigitte Macron was seen placing her hands on the face of the French president, a gesture interpreted by some as abrupt.

The French refusal at the heart of the discord

Beyond the personal attacks, it is the lack of French military support in the Gulf that has crystallized Trump's anger. He recounted, in a caricatured French accent, Emmanuel Macron's refusal to commit further:
