L'ex-président français Nicolas Sarkozy s'est vu notifier les modalités de son incarcération

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was notified Monday by the Paris judicial court of the date and place of his imprisonment, which have not been made public, following his conviction in the Libyan case, AFP journalists noted.

At 70, Nicolas Sarkozy will become the first former head of state of a European Union country to go behind bars.

On September 25, the former head of state was sentenced to five years in prison with provisional execution, finding him guilty of criminal conspiracy for having allowed his closest collaborators to approach Muammar Gaddafi's Libya with a view to illegally financing his victorious 2007 presidential campaign.

The former president, who arrived in a car with tinted windows around 1:45 p.m. (11:45 a.m. GMT), left at 2:25 p.m. (12:45 p.m. GMT) without making a statement. He was informed of the terms of his detention at the National Financial Prosecutor's Office, which have not been made public.

This imprisonment should theoretically take place within four months, but Nicolas Sarkozy will be imprisoned "relatively soon," a judicial source told AFP at the time of the judgment.

To ensure his safety, he could be placed either in solitary confinement or in a "vulnerable area" (QPV), which two prisons in the Paris region have: La Santé in Paris and Fleury-Mérogis in the suburbs.
