Mondial 2026 : L'Argentine surclasse l'Algérie grâce à un grand Lionel Messi
In their opening match of the 2026 World Cup, defending champions Argentina made short work of Algeria (3-0) on Wednesday, June 17. Led by a dazzling Lionel Messi, who scored a hat-trick, the Albicelestes got their tournament off to a perfect start.
The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner proved he was still the boss. At 38, the Inter Miami playmaker wasted no time in making his mark on the tournament, guiding his team towards the ultimate goal: retaining their world title.
However, the Fennecs took to the pitch with real ambitions, refusing to play the role of sacrificial lambs. While the Algerian team showed some solidity in the opening minutes, they quickly had to face the facts against a Lionel Messi who was simply untouchable and devastatingly efficient.
Despite the heavy scoreline, this defeat must not dampen the spirits of the Algerian team. Nothing is decided yet in Group J, where the race for qualification remains wide open against Austria and Jordan.
Next up: Vladimir Petkovic's men will face Jordan on June 23rd for the second match of the group stage. A crucial game where a slip-up is out of the question if they hope to reach the round of 16.
