Tensions diplomatiques : La Somalie s'oppose aux ambitions militaires d'Israël au Somaliland
Tensions are rising between Mogadishu and Israel. Somalia has firmly expressed its refusal to allow an Israeli military base to be established on the territory of Somaliland, a region that seceded in 1991 but which the Somali government still considers an integral part of its sovereignty.
Last December, Israel broke a diplomatic taboo by becoming the first UN member state to officially recognize the independence of Somaliland . While this recognition surprised the international community, it now appears to be part of a specific geopolitical strategy.
According to information from Bloomberg and Swedish media, the military base project is already well underway, despite partial denials from Hargeisa (capital of Somaliland):
In response to these developments, the Federal Government of Somalia reiterates that it is the sole legitimate interlocutor on the international stage.
"Somalia does not want its territory drawn into external conflicts, nor used in a way that could further destabilize an already fragile region."
— Ali Omar , Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs (March 12, on Al Jazeera).
