Venezuela : au moins 100 morts après une attaque américaine, selon Caracas
A US attack in Caracas has reportedly left at least 100 people dead. The operation is believed to have led to the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The announcement was made Wednesday, January 7, by Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello.
"At the moment, we have 100 dead and roughly the same number injured. The attack on our country was terrible," the minister said during his weekly program on public television.
According to him, Cilia Flores suffered head and body injuries. Nicolas Maduro, for his part, was reportedly shot in the leg. "Fortunately, they are recovering from their injuries," Diosdado Cabello stated.
As early as Monday, January 5, Cilia Flores' lawyer, Mark Donnelly, stated before a U.S. federal judge that his client had suffered serious injuries during the assault. He mentioned significant bruising to her ribs and requested a thorough medical examination.
The Venezuelan armed forces released several videos showing the funerals of soldiers killed during the operation. The videos depict coffins draped in the national flag, escorted by uniformed soldiers. Tearful relatives paid their final respects to the victims, praising their "courage, bravery, and loyalty."
In Venezuela, the state of emergency remains in effect. Paramilitary groups are deployed in the streets of Caracas to maintain order, according to authorities.
