L’influenceur camerounais Élysée le Sniper condamné à un an de prison avec sursis
Cameroonian influencer Élysée le Sniper, prosecuted for defamation and undermining Ivorian institutions, received a one-year suspended prison sentence. While he avoided imprisonment, he is nonetheless subject to a temporary travel ban.
The Ivorian justice system has ruled: Élysée the Sniper receives a one-year suspended prison sentence for slander and undermining the institutions of the Republic.
Thanks to this suspended sentence, the influencer will not go to prison, provided he does not commit any further offenses. However, his freedom remains under supervision. Judicial authorities have specifically prohibited him from leaving Ivorian territory until further notice, pending the completion of the legal proceedings.
The case is based on old videos that have resurfaced on social media. In these clips, dating back several years, Élysée the Sniper made particularly virulent remarks against Ivory Coast and its institutions.
The downward spiral: The recent re-release of these images has sparked outrage among Ivorian internet users. Although the influencer issued a public apology before his arrest, the court deemed the offense serious enough to warrant prosecution and a sentence.
This verdict reignites the crucial debate on the responsibility of content creators in the digital age and serves as a reminder that on the Internet, writings and videos remain, exposing their authors to legal sanctions even years later.
