Tribunal Militaire d'Abidjan : Six mois de prison ferme pour deux adjudants ripoux
The Ivorian military justice system has dealt a major blow to corruption within the security forces. Two warrant officers stationed in Tabou were convicted by the Abidjan Military Court (TMA) for extortion and violating orders . This verdict serves as a stark reminder that the integrity of the armed forces remains non-negotiable.
Everything changed on January 17, 2026, on the Iboké–Olodio road. While Warrant Officers ZJP and DY were conducting a routine traffic stop, they were unaware they were being filmed. The footage shown during the hearing was damning: it clearly showed one of the non-commissioned officers pocketing money from a motorcyclist, while his colleague was busy giving him change.
Called to the stand, the two soldiers attempted to downplay the seriousness of their actions with explanations that were, to say the least, flimsy:
These justifications did not stand up to the evidence presented in the video. Faced with this evidence, deemed irrefutable, the court remained inflexible.
Pursuant to Articles 474, 484 and 559 of the Penal Code, the verdict has been handed down, with serious consequences for the two defendants:
Beyond the individual sanction, this decision serves as a solemn warning to all defense and security forces. At a time when public trust in its institutions is paramount, the Abidjan Military Tribunal demonstrates that no ethical lapse will be tolerated.
