Fête du Travail 2026 : Offensive sociale et nouvelles garanties pour les travailleurs ivoiriens

The Treichville Labor Exchange was abuzz with activity on Friday, May 1st, 2026, as government announcements were announced. On the occasion of Labor Day, Adama Kamara, Minister of Employment and Social Protection, unveiled an ambitious assessment and new perspectives for the world of work in Côte d'Ivoire.

Social dialogue as an engine of progress

While acknowledging the historical legacy of the UGTCI (founded in 1962), the minister recalled that the government's method is based on close collaboration with trade unions.

  1. A strengthened democracy: Free and responsible trade unionism is now considered a pillar of national stability.
  2. The social truce: Thanks to tripartite agreements (State, employers, unions), the social climate now allows for fundamental reforms.
  3. Legislative modernization: New implementing decrees of the 2015 Labour Code have been adopted to better secure employment while offering more rights to employees.

A revolution in the pension system

One of the highlights of the intervention concerned the historic measures undertaken since October 2025 to protect senior citizens.

“These reforms embody President Alassane Ouattara’s humanist vision: to transform economic growth into concrete social progress for every household.” — Adama Kamara

Towards inclusive social protection

Beyond the figures, the government reiterated its commitment to building a system where human dignity is central. The minister concluded his address with a call for unity, urging social partners to maintain this constructive dialogue to address the persistent challenges of vocational training and youth employment.

On this symbolic day, the message from the executive branch is clear: social protection is no longer an option, but the foundation of Ivorian development.
