As the 12th Ordinary Elective Congress of the National Union of Journalists of Côte d'Ivoire (UNJCI) approaches, the focus is on dialogue and fair play. This Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the Media Support and Development Agency (ASDM) in Abidjan-Cocody, the president of the ad hoc organizing committee, Amos Beonaho, convened the campaign teams to set the course for a peaceful election.

Agree on the rules of the game

The objective of this meeting was clear: to establish a climate of mutual trust before the official start of voting. For Amos Beonaho, transparency and professionalism must be at the heart of the process.

"You can't have a competition without agreeing on the rules, procedures, transparency, and mutual respect." — Amos Beonaho , Chairman of the ad hoc committee

The president emphasized that the campaign—open from June 2nd to 5th—should be seen as a "democratic contest," but above all as a "celebration" of the profession. Reminding everyone that the eyes of the entire industry are on this election, he urged candidates to demonstrate responsibility and collegiality, while also acknowledging the support of the Minister of Communication, Amadou Coulibaly, and the wise counsel of the Union's former presidents.

The candidates are unanimous on the rally

Faced with these instructions, the two leading candidates in the competition displayed a shared desire to preserve the unity of Ivorian journalists:

  1. Stéphane Bahi (List “Together for a strong and united union” ) expressed the wish that this congress would mark a real return to cohesion and unity.
  2. Marie-Laure N'Goran (List "UNJCI new vision" ) reminded everyone that while competition is natural during the campaign, it must in no way give way to lasting divisions within the corporation.

The stage is set for this 12th Congress, scheduled for June 6 and 7, 2026 at the Maison de la Presse in Abidjan-Plateau. This event promises to be decisive for the future and development of the media in Côte d'Ivoire.
