Abandon des jeunes manifestants anti-4e mandat de Ouattara : l'alerte d'un avocat
Abidjan, Ivory Coast - Returning from the Abidjan Penitentiary Center (PPA), formerly Maca, the main Ivorian prison, lawyer Me Ange Rodrigue Dadjé raised the alarm on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, on his Meta page concerning the conditions of detention of young people arrested during the demonstrations against the candidacy of President Alassane Ouattara for a fourth term.
These demonstrations were initiated at the call of the Common Front PPA-CI-PDCI-RDA, the main Ivorian opposition parties.
Mr. Dadjé said he was "completely saddened" by the situation of the detainees: "All these young people whom the Common Front asked to take to the streets are abandoned to their fate without the means to feed themselves decently and, more seriously, without a lawyer to defend them in court, and many are being convicted. Sad," he posted.
It is worth recalling that approximately 700 protesters were arrested on October 11 during the opposition march. Among them, 36 were tried and sentenced to three years in prison for "disturbing public order".
Following the proclamation of the provisional results of the presidential election (where Alassane Ouattara was declared elected with 89.77% of the votes), candidate Simone Ehivet Gbagbo, who came in 3rd position (2.42%), pleaded on Monday for the "clemency" of the President of the Republic in order to obtain the release of all these detainees.
