CEI, voici les raisons de la dissolution
The Independent Electoral Commission (CEI), the body in charge of organizing elections in Ivory Coast, was dissolved this Wednesday, May 6, 2026. The information was given by the government spokesperson following the Council of Ministers meeting.
Speaking to the press, the government spokesperson minister gave the reasons for this decision.
He said that the dissolution of the CIS was essentially due to three reasons.
Firstly, this is the "end of the electoral cycle with the legislative elections of December 27, 2025".
Secondly, there are "the reservations noted about the institution".
And thirdly, "the criticisms she has been subjected to," quoted Minister Amadou Coulibaly.
Beyond these reasons, it should also be noted that the six-year mandate of the current IEC office expired on September 30, 2025.
Continuing, the government spokesperson also indicated that this dissolution “paves the way for the advent of a new election management mechanism”.
