Côte d’Ivoire : Brédoumy Soumaïla retrouve la liberté provisoire après plus d’un mois de détention
MP Brédoumy Soumaïla , spokesperson for the PDCI-RDA , was granted provisional release on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 , after spending just over a month in detention at the Abidjan Penitentiary Center (PPA) . This decision marks a turning point in a political and legal case that has sparked strong reactions on the national stage.
Re-elected as a member of parliament in the legislative elections of December 27, 2025 , while still in detention, Brédoumy Soumaïla has seen his legal situation improve. The announcement of his release was made by his lawyer, Rodrigue Dadjé , who welcomed the decision and expressed his gratitude to his colleagues and supporters involved in the proceedings.
Arrested in late November 2025, the spokesperson for the main opposition party was facing legal proceedings. His detention fueled a political and legal debate , particularly regarding the rights of elected officials, parliamentary immunity, and the political climate leading up to and following the legislative elections.
It should be noted, however, that this release is provisional . Brédoumy Soumaïla remains at the disposal of the justice system , and the legal proceedings against him are still ongoing. The judicial authorities may, if necessary, summon him as part of the ongoing investigation.
This provisional release has been met with relief by his supporters , while also reigniting discussions within the Ivorian political class regarding the handling of legal cases involving political figures. It comes in an institutional context already marked by the government's resignation following the legislative elections and the ongoing political realignments.
