Deuxième procès (2e) de la marche interdite du 11 octobre : 32 manifestants condamnés à trois ans de prison ferme
The Abidjan-Plateau Court of First Instance delivered its verdict this Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in the second (2nd) trial relating to the banned march of October 11. Thirty-two (32) people were found guilty of disturbing public order, gathering on the public highway, and participating in an unauthorized demonstration. They were sentenced to thirty-six (36) months in prison, with five years of deprivation of civil rights and a three-year ban on appearing in Abidjan.
Eight (8) other defendants were granted mitigating circumstances, as the court found that the evidence presented against them was insufficient to establish their guilt. The events allegedly took place near the Blockhaus section, the Saint-Jean church and the La Vie crossroads, in the commune of Cocody, during a gathering deemed illegal by the authorities.
This judgment comes a week after an initial hearing held on October 16, during which several people had already been sentenced to similar terms. The prosecution then reaffirmed its determination to enforce public order provisions.
According to available information, approximately 700 people were arrested in Abidjan and other parts of the country during the march. The court recalled that the decisions rendered remain subject to appeal within 20 days.
This second trial is part of a series of hearings initiated following the October 11 protests. Proceedings are continuing to rule on the various cases filed by the courts.
