Dissolution de la CEI : Le PDCI-RDA exige une réforme profonde et un dialogue national

The Ivorian political landscape is in turmoil. Following the announcement of the dissolution of the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI), the PDCI-RDA took to the airwaves this Wednesday, May 13, 2026. During a press conference held at the party headquarters in Cocody, spokesperson Bredoumy Soumaïla Kouassi presented the demands of the "elephant party": the creation of a truly neutral body and the immediate opening of a national consultation.

A new body under certain conditions

While the PDCI-RDA acknowledges the government's decision, it does not intend to give it a blank check. For the opposition party, replacing the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) must not be a mere cosmetic change. Mr. Kouassi has laid out clear objectives:

  1. Genuine independence: The future body must be completely free from political pressures.
  2. Inclusive consultation: Its structure must result from a consensus between all major political actors.
  3. Respect for powers: A firm call has been made for a strict separation between the executive and electoral management.

Grievances over the electoral calendar

The spokesperson used this platform to denounce past shortcomings, notably the absence of a Revision of the Electoral List (RLE) in 2025. A delay deemed contrary to the law which, coupled with the lack of visibility on the 2026 timetable before the dissolution, fuels the mistrust of the historic party.

"It is not just about replacing the IEC, but about cleaning up the entire electoral ecosystem to guarantee the free expression of everyone," Bredoumy Soumaïla Kouassi insisted.

The call for dialogue and the ambition to regain control

Faced with this uncertainty, the PDCI-RDA is advocating for the opening of a national political dialogue . This forum should bring together political parties, civil society, and technical partners to pave the way for peaceful elections.

In conclusion, Bredoumy Soumaïla Kouassi demonstrated the resilience of his political party. Recalling the trials endured since 1990 (coups, crises, and attempts at destabilization), he reaffirmed the party's ultimate goal: a return to state power.

"Our ambition remains intact: to once again manage Ivory Coast for the progress of all and the happiness of each individual," he concluded before an assembly of mobilized activists.
