Drame en milieu carcéral : Le PPA-CI s'insurge après le décès de deux militants
In Ivory Coast, the political climate is becoming increasingly tense following the announcement of the successive deaths of two young supporters of the Party of African Peoples – Ivory Coast (PPA-CI) . Laurent Gbagbo's party strongly condemns the "inhumane" treatment of detainees and demands a full investigation into these disappearances.
The victims, Monnet Marius and Gnan Guélablé , had been arrested in connection with protests against a possible fourth term for President Alassane Ouattara. Imprisoned on charges of "disturbing public order," they died just one week apart while awaiting trial.
The PPA-CI Youth League expressed its "consternation" in a press release, painting an alarming picture of the prison situation:
Describing these activists as "prisoners of conscience," the youth movement of the PPA-CI directly calls on the authorities to respect fundamental freedoms. To shed light on these tragedies, the party demands:
"These are serious, unacceptable and deeply shocking situations." — Excerpt from the press release of the PPA-CI Youth League.
To date, neither the prison administration nor the Ministry of Justice has provided an official response to these accusations.
