Fact-Checking : Non, le président Alassane Ouattara n'a pas été renversé par un coup d'État
A viral video circulating on TikTok uses artificial intelligence to spread a major piece of misinformation: that the Ivorian army has overthrown President Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan. This is completely false. The Ivorian Press Agency (AIP) has analyzed the footage to debunk this digital manipulation.
In the offending segment, a woman claiming to be a journalist reports live from Abidjan that security forces have surrounded the police headquarters and that negotiations are underway. However, several pieces of evidence definitively refute the authenticity of this report:
When submitted to the deepfake detection software Hive Models , the video shows an undeniable score: it is 99.9% generated by artificial intelligence .
To the naked eye, the illusion doesn't hold up. Unnatural facial movements are visible, as well as a blatant discrepancy (desynchronization) between the audio and the lip movements of the fake journalist.
Although the background shows riot police to lend credibility to the scene, analysis of the details (equipment, uniforms, physical features) reveals that these are images of Western law enforcement, and absolutely not of Ivorian security units.
The political observation: Obviously, no official institution in Ivory Coast nor any credible media outlet has reported any troop movement or threat against the government in power.
This scenario illustrates the rise of deepfakes targeting political figures to destabilize public opinion. Faced with sensational or alarmist videos, common sense remains the best weapon.
