Réforme électorale en Côte d'Ivoire : Vincent Toh Bi plaide pour des institutions fortes et consensuelles
The president of the citizen movement Aube Nouvelle , Vincent Toh Bi Irié, officially welcomed the government's initiative to open consultations with political parties and civil society regarding the overhaul of the electoral system. In a statement published on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, the former prefect of Abidjan nevertheless called for further steps to be taken to firmly establish citizens' trust in elections.
According to Vincent Toh Bi, the institutional framework proposed by the executive branch is structured around three pillars, modeled on the Senegalese system:
Although he acknowledges the effectiveness of this system in Senegal, the leader of Aube Nouvelle reminds us of the importance of local adaptation: "Each state must adapt its electoral architecture to its history, its political culture and its institutional realities."
Going beyond purely technical matters, the former prefect proposes a more profound revision affecting the Constitution and the electoral law. He particularly emphasizes:
"We need to put in place strong institutions capable of preserving freedoms and ensuring the stability of the country beyond the current political generations," concluded Vincent Toh Bi Irié.
In congratulating the President of the Republic and the government for choosing the path of dialogue, the President of Aube Nouvelle expresses the hope that these exchanges will lead to consensual reforms, guaranteeing transparent and peaceful elections.
