A terrible road accident claimed the lives of two people on Friday, May 22, 2026, near the village of Yaou, in the commune of Bonoua. The tragedy involved a truck and a passenger car.

The circumstances of the tragedy

According to initial findings of the investigation, the driver of a Renault Trucks (license plate BX 8564 RB) was traveling from Grand-Bassam to Bonoua. Upon entering the Yaou urban area, he was surprised by a BMW approaching from the opposite direction. The BMW, traveling at high speed, was attempting a dangerous overtaking maneuver.

The head-on collision was extremely violent:

The sedan was thrown into a series of spins on the road.
The articulated vehicle ended up on the right side of the road.

The human toll

The accident unfortunately resulted in two fatalities, both victims of the personal vehicle:

Assouan Miessan Junior , a 31-year-old trader born in Yaou.
Kouassi Yoann , a 16-year-old student, enrolled in 4th grade at the Lycée moderne d'Aboisso.

Immediate measures: Following standard procedures carried out by law enforcement, the bodies were removed and transferred to the morgue at Bonoua General Hospital. Recovery services quickly removed the wrecked vehicles to ease traffic congestion.

A police investigation has been launched to shed full light on who is responsible for this tragic accident.
