Faux cas d’Ebola à Yopougon : Le ministère de la Santé tape du poing sur la table
Faced with growing panic on social media, Ivorian health authorities have put an end to the rumors. In an official statement released this Saturday, the Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene, and Universal Health Coverage formally denied the presence of any cases of Ebola virus disease in the Yopougon district, as well as in the rest of the country.
Although no cases have been detected in Ivory Coast, the alert level remains at its highest. This denial comes a few weeks after a warning from the National Institute of Public Health (INHP). On May 20, the institute reiterated the resurgence of the Ebola threat in the sub-region, prompting authorities to tighten border surveillance protocols to prevent any introduction of the virus.
The ministry has strongly warned internet users and the media against spreading this false information (fake news).
Reminder of the law: Spreading rumors of this kind constitutes a serious offense under Ivorian cybercrime legislation. Those who spread and disseminate such rumors are liable to prosecution. The authorities therefore urge everyone to act responsibly and to rely only on official channels.
To stop the spread of the virus, the government reiterates the importance of strictly adhering to basic hygiene measures:
In case of sudden fever, headache, body aches, or unexplained bleeding (especially after traveling to an affected area), do not go directly to a clinic . Contact emergency services immediately or call the toll-free number 143 .
