Communiqué du Conseil : La Côte d'Ivoire accélère sa modernisation et sa souveraineté alimentaire
The last Council of Ministers was marked by the adoption of nine draft decrees , supported by massive international funding targeting agriculture, transport and the mining industry.
1. Food sovereignty: Rice at the heart of priorities
The government is banking on self-sufficiency with the ratification of a 104.2 million euro (approximately 68 billion FCFA) agreement with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
- Objective: To drastically reduce imports.
- Actions: Hydro-agricultural development, support for the seed sector and modernization of paddy rice processing.
2. Urban Mobility: Towards a fluid "Greater Abidjan"
A colossal investment of €200 million (131 billion FCFA) has been approved to transform transportation in the economic capital. The program includes:
- Infrastructure: 164 km of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines and 65 km of metro.
- Modernisation: Development of lagoon transport and redevelopment of strategic intersections (Saint-Jean, Vie intersection, Angré).
3. Mineral Resources and the Private Sector
- Lithium: Two exploration permits have been granted to explore the mining potential in several departments, including Mankono, Agboville and Adzopé.
- Privatization: The State continues its withdrawal from the commercial sector by selling its 15% stake in the company Ips Wa to the Optimus Holding group.
4. International Cooperation and Diplomacy
- Mattei Plan: The country will benefit from Italian support of 639 million euros (420 billion FCFA) to support various development projects.
- African Union: During the 39th session in Addis Ababa, Côte d'Ivoire reaffirmed its leadership on regional security and water management issues.
- Diplomacy: Approval given to the new ambassadors of Belarus and Equatorial Guinea.
Economic Vigilance Measures
Faced with geopolitical instability in the Middle East and fluctuating oil prices, the government has established a monitoring unit . Its mission: to anticipate economic shocks and protect the purchasing power of Ivorians against inflation in the price of basic consumer goods.
Next deadline: The next Council of Ministers will be held on March 8, 2026 .
