Côte d’Ivoire : la tolérance zéro bientôt appliquée aux Gbakas, des sanctions renforcées annoncées

Ivorian authorities have announced that the "Zero Tolerance" campaign, launched to strengthen road safety, will be extended to Gbakas minibuses in the coming weeks. This measure aims to reduce traffic violations and improve safety in urban and suburban transport.

The zero-tolerance policy, already in place for several weeks on main roads, involves strictly monitoring drivers and applying the penalties stipulated by the highway code : speeding, driving without proper documentation, dangerous overtaking, and uncivil behavior. Hundreds of vehicles have already been impounded and several drivers penalized for violating regulations.

Gbakas, minibuses widely used for public transport, are often criticized for contributing to road safety issues. Authorities believe that extending the zero-tolerance policy to these vehicles will help hold drivers accountable , ensure compliance with safety standards, and protect passengers.

According to information relayed by the media and transport stakeholders, the measure will be strictly applied in the next two weeks , with reinforced controls on all urban and suburban routes.

Gbaka drivers must have their administrative documents in order, respect speed limits and adopt disciplined driving, under penalty of sanctions ranging from fines to the impounding of their vehicles.

The DGTTC (Directorate General of Land Transport and Traffic) and law enforcement emphasize that this campaign is part of a national objective to reduce accidents and promote road safety , and that no category of driver will be exempt. Authorities also encourage road users to report dangerous behavior and cooperate with law enforcement.

For passengers and urban transport operators, this initiative could transform how Gbakas (minibuses) operate in cities, improving safety and service reliability. Industry professionals are urged to take the necessary steps now to comply with the new requirements and avoid any disruption.
