Côte d'Ivoire/ Lutte contre la pollution" la Fondation Endeavour inaugure un centre de tri plastique à Zouan-Houanien
The Endeavour Foundation, in partnership with Coliba Africa, an Ivorian social enterprise specializing in the collection and recycling of plastic waste, inaugurated the Zouan-Houanien plastic sorting center on October 9, 2025, a unique project that illustrates the commitment of the Endeavour Mining group to environmental protection and sustainable development of populations.
According to an information note sent to Abidjan.net on October 13, 2025, 101 million FCFA were invested by the Endeavour Foundation for the implementation of the said project.
Furthermore, 265 tonnes of plastic will be collected each year in Man and Zouan-Houanien thanks to this sorting centre and 479 direct and indirect jobs will be created as part of this project which will benefit 2,500 households.
In Zouan-Houanien, the document also reveals, more than 5,000 tonnes of plastic waste are generated each year, for around 250,000 inhabitants.
According to the note, this plastic sorting center aims to transform used plastic into a recoverable resource, thus placing the locality in a true circular economy dynamic.
"It is an equipped and structured space where plastic waste is collected from households, businesses and public spaces, thanks to a local network of trained and supervised collectors, sorted manually and mechanically according to their type and packaged and stored before being sent to recycling or processing units to be converted into secondary raw materials," the document added.
"This sorting center reflects the concrete implementation of our environmental strategy and our desire to transform challenges into sustainable opportunities. Together, with COLIBA Africa and our local partners, we are laying the foundations for a responsible development model that will benefit our communities for generations to come," explained Djaria Traoré, Executive Vice President, Operations and ESG.
Furthermore, we learn that this initiative pursues several objectives.
In particular, the sustainable reduction of the impact of plastic on the environment and public health, the creation of green jobs as a priority for young people and women and the promotion of a real recycling culture within communities.
More than 101 million FCFA were invested in the project. This investment reflects the Endeavour Group's commitment to transforming environmental challenges into sustainable opportunities for communities. It also illustrates the concrete implementation of Endeavour Mining's "towards zero plastic" strategy, already deployed at its mining sites and which has reduced the use of plastic bottles in its operations by 97%.
