Côte d’Ivoire : un automobiliste arrêté après avoir roulé à contresens, la DGTTC durcit le ton
A driver in a black Mercedes was stopped by police after driving the wrong way down a traffic lane, in violation of traffic laws. The information was released by the Directorate General of Land Transport and Traffic (DGTTC) as part of the national campaign against road traffic offenses.
According to authorities, the driver crossed the central reservation before continuing on the wrong side of the road, as if he owned the entire road. This particularly dangerous behavior could have caused a serious accident and jeopardized the safety of other road users.
After being identified, the driver was summoned to the Abidjan Police Headquarters to explain the alleged offenses. However, the explanations he provided did not convince the authorities.
Held in police custody for two days, the suspect was finally brought before the public prosecutor on Friday, March 13, 2026. This procedure reflects the Ivorian authorities' commitment to strengthening the crackdown on dangerous driving.
For several weeks, the services of the Directorate General of Land Transport and Traffic have been increasing awareness campaigns and enforcement operations to combat traffic violations. Authorities reiterate that a zero-tolerance policy is now in effect for drivers who endanger the lives of other road users.
