Tiassalé, Ivory Coast — The Ivorian school system is in mourning following a terrible traffic accident that occurred on Saturday, November 8, 2025, on the Northern Highway. Two teachers from the Kassassou Public Primary School (EPP) 1, Ossohou Boka Jean and Brou Ahou Bekna, attached to the Tiassalé Preschool and Primary Education Inspectorate (IEPP), lost their lives.

A shock of rare violence

According to information gathered, the two men were riding a motorcycle for personal errands on the section of the highway, specifically between PK 120 and 126. It was while attempting to cross the central reservation at PK 126 that they were violently struck by a car traveling at high speed .

The impact was extremely brutal, leaving the victims no chance of survival. Both teachers died instantly .

Witnesses described a gruesome scene: lifeless bodies lay on the asphalt, under the horrified gaze of passing motorists. Quickly alerted, law enforcement and firefighters arrived to secure the area and conduct their initial investigation. The bodies were taken into the care of a funeral home, while the gendarmerie opened an inquiry to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy.

Consternation and tributes

The announcement of this double loss has sown consternation within the educational community of Kassassou and the entire Tiassalé Primary Education District. The emotion is palpable at Kassassou Primary School No. 1, where colleagues, students, and parents are struggling to hide their grief.

  1. "They were two dedicated teachers, always available for their students. Their passing leaves a great void," a shocked colleague confided.

Ossohou Boka Jean and Brou Ahou Bekna were particularly appreciated for their rigor and sense of duty . Their tragic deaths once again highlight the dangers of the road , especially the impact of excessive speed and disregard for traffic laws on these major roads.

Call for increased road safety

In the wake of this latest tragedy, voices are rising to call on the relevant authorities to urgently strengthen security on the Northern Highway. Residents of Kassassou are specifically demanding the installation of safe crossings or speed bumps near residential areas close to the highway, in order to prevent further tragedies.

This double death, occurring at the start of the school year, has deeply saddened the teaching community. The two teachers leave behind grieving families, students deprived of their teachers, and heartbroken colleagues. This tragic event serves as a poignant reminder that caution is paramount on our roads, where inattention can be fatal at any moment.
