The town of Kounahiri is in shock after a day of unprecedented violence. What began with the discovery of a heinous crime ended in an act of mob justice in the face of law enforcement.

A scene of extreme violence

On Wednesday, three lifeless bodies were found on a farm track located beyond the Kouassigbé Bomisso field. The victims, killed with a machete, represent a particularly heavy toll.

1. A woman.
2. Her infant, only two weeks old.
3. An elderly person.

The first witnesses on the scene, including teacher Bomisso Tchehi Richard, described an "unbearable" scene and mutilated bodies, plunging local residents into terror.

The intervention of the authorities and the identity of the suspect

The sub-prefect of Kounahiri, Wayoro Bity Guy Charles , immediately went to the scene with the gendarmerie to conduct the initial investigation. The suspect turned himself in to the authorities shortly after the incident.

Although some sources mention mental disorders in the individual, this information remains to be confirmed by the judicial investigation that had been opened.

An angry mob defies the law

Despite repeated calls for calm from the sub-prefect, who asked the population to trust the justice system, the tension quickly escalated:

2. The lynching: The protesters managed to seize the man.
3. The public execution: The alleged perpetrator was lynched and his body was burned in front of the gendarmerie premises.
