Fête du Travail : Vers une retraite complémentaire pour le secteur privé

At the official celebration of May 1st, 2026 at the Prime Minister's office, Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé made a strong impression with a major announcement: the imminent finalization of the supplementary pension reform for private sector workers .

Speaking on behalf of the President of the Republic, the head of government specified that this long-awaited project is the result of a consensual agreement with social partners.

A response to union expectations

This announcement directly addresses the demands of the country's five major trade unions. Workers' representatives emphasized the urgent need to align the private sector with the model already in place for civil servants, in order to correct a long-standing disparity in social protection.

Drawing inspiration from the success of the public sector

The upcoming reform is based on the CGRAE (General Pension Fund for State Employees) model, which has already proven its worth among state employees. As a reminder, this system is based on:

  1. Capitalization: A mechanism allowing the final pension amount to be increased in addition to the basic scheme.
  2. Flexibility: Beneficiaries can choose between a lifetime annuity or a lump sum payment.
  3. The contribution rate: Set at 5% of the basic salary for civil servants, with options for voluntary contributions to optimize retirement.

One more step towards social security

The enthusiastic reception from the workers present at the Prime Minister's office testifies to the importance of this project. By expanding this initiative, the Ivorian government demonstrates its commitment to:

  1. Securing the future of employees after their working life.
  2. Improve the replacement rate (the level of income maintained in retirement).
  3. Modernize the national system to adapt it to current economic realities.
"Through this reform, the government intends to guarantee Ivorian workers a more dignified, more secure, and better-adapted retirement."

This major step forward confirms the momentum of strengthening social protection in Côte d'Ivoire, placing the dignity of the worker at the heart of national priorities.
