Inondations à Yopougon : Dominique Ouattara offre 25 millions FCFA et appelle à la vigilance
In response to the tragic toll of the recent floods in Yopougon — which claimed the lives of 11 people from eight families — the First Lady of Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, expressed her solidarity on Thursday, July 2, 2026. A significant contribution totaling 25 million CFA francs was granted to the victims to support them through this ordeal.
The handover ceremony took place at Yopougon Town Hall, bringing together local authorities, representatives of the First Lady's office and the families severely affected, including that of Gondo Emmanuel, who are mourning the loss of four of their members.
Representing the First Lady, Mrs. Sylvie Patricia Yao, Vice-President of the National Assembly, conveyed the deepest condolences of the wife of the Head of State, assuring that the latter is following the situation very closely.
Beyond humanitarian aid, the envoy made an urgent appeal for a change in behavior regarding weather risks in the Abidjan district:
"Prevention is a collective responsibility. It is essential to avoid areas where construction is prohibited and high-risk sites, because human life is precious."
Ms. Yao urged the population, elected officials and administrative authorities to redouble their efforts in raising awareness to avoid further tragedies during this rainy season.
The First Lady's chief of staff, N'Da Nadia, detailed the composition of this overall aid of 25 million FCFA, divided between material support (estimated at 20 million FCFA) and financial support (5 million FCFA).
| Type of donation | Detailed composition |
| Food | 200 bags of rice (50 kg), 100 cartons of oil, 100 cartons of tomatoes, 200 bags of pasta (5 kg), 100 cartons of soap, 100 cartons of sardines. |
| Non-food items | 300 basins, 300 buckets, 300 chairs, 200 mats, 500 plates, 500 spoons and 500 forks. |
| Financial assistance | A sum of 5 million CFA francs distributed between the injured and the bereaved families. |
Speaking on behalf of the bereaved families, Kouassi Félix expressed his profound gratitude for the First Lady's generosity and the swift response of the authorities. He noted that the exceptional intensity of the rains, exacerbated by climate change, had severely damaged several neighborhoods. He stated that the government's close involvement and direct institutional support had been a true source of comfort to the grieving communities.
