Opération Épervier XI : plus de 600 chichas saisies à Cocody, Marcory et Abobo
Ivorian authorities are intensifying the fight against shisha smoking in public places. As part of Operation Sparrowhawk XI, a large-scale control operation was carried out in several districts of Abidjan by the Vice Squad and the Mobile Intervention Group (GMI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
This action is part of the implementation of decree no. 2025-42 of January 15, 2025, which specifies the terms of the smoking ban in public places and on public transport. The National Program for the Fight against Tobacco Use, Alcoholism, Drug Addiction and other Addictions (PNLTA) also participated in the operation.
The checks mainly targeted the municipalities of Cocody, Marcory and Abobo, known for the high presence of establishments offering shisha.
According to a preliminary report released by the authorities, 615 shishas were seized during this operation.
The forces involved indicate that the operation is continuing in order to strengthen compliance with health regulations and to limit the risks associated with smoking and addictions in public spaces.
This new phase of control demonstrates the authorities' commitment to strictly enforcing regulations concerning public health and the protection of populations.
