L’Américain Malcolm Brogdon a pris la décision de prendre sa retraite à l’âge de 32 ans.

A bolt from the blue just days before the start of the NBA season: Malcolm Brogdon announced this Wednesday that he was ending his career at just 32 years old.

The American point guard, who was supposed to strengthen the New York Knicks' rotation, prefers to draw a line under a career marked by distinctions as much as by injuries.

"Today I officially begin my transition away from basketball. I have proudly given my mind, body and soul to this sport for the past few decades ," he said in a statement to ESPN .

The former 2017 Rookie of the Year and 2023 Sixth Man of the Year added: "I am deeply grateful to have been able to leave the game on my own terms and now enjoy the fruits of my career with my family and friends."

Drafted 36th overall by Milwaukee in 2016, Brogdon quickly established himself as a mature player. After notable stints with the Bucks, Pacers, and then the Celtics, he experienced a more eventful end to his career, spending time in Portland, Washington, and New York, without ever regaining his former level.

Slowed by recurring injuries, he completed nine solid seasons in the NBA, averaging 15.3 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds, including an impressive 43% three-point shooting during his prime. His sudden departure leaves a void in the Knicks' roster, but more importantly, the legacy of a player respected for his intelligence, discipline, and exemplary leadership.
