Côte d’Ivoire : Le « faux bon samaritain » de la gare de Korhogo arrêté par la BRI pour viols et vols
An individual posing as a benefactor to female travelers was arrested in Korhogo by the Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI). This "fake good Samaritan" took advantage of the vulnerability of women stranded at the bus station to trap, assault, and rob them.
According to security sources relayed by the Ivorian Press Agency (AIP), the suspect, identified by the initials YWA , operated mainly at night. He would approach female travelers in distress, offering them accommodation or transportation, before taking them to isolated locations where he would sexually assault them and steal their belongings.
Following several complaints filed by victims, the BRI (Research and Intervention Brigade) opened an investigation which led to the location and arrest of the suspect. He was taken into custody before being brought before the Korhogo prosecutor's office to answer charges of rape and aggravated robbery .
This arrest puts an end to a series of attacks that had sown fear among users of the Korhogo bus station, particularly women traveling alone. Local authorities commend the police investigation and urge the public to remain vigilant, especially when faced with offers of assistance from strangers.
The case, now in the hands of the justice system, reignites the debate on security in train stations and public places, as well as on the need to strengthen the protection of women in situations of mobility.
