The Ministry of Water and Forests is in mourning. Sergeant Koua Oua Blaise , a member of the Special Surveillance and Intervention Brigade (BSSI), was killed on June 20, 2026. This tragedy occurred during a mission to reclaim and secure the Yapo-Abbé classified forest.

According to the official statement released by the ministry on Monday, June 22, this intervention is part of the implementation of the national forest preservation policy. Its primary aim is to restore state authority and eradicate illegal occupation and exploitation of forest land.

Context of tension: This operation was planned following serious incidents that occurred at the end of May 2026 in the same area, during which Water and Forestry agents were violently attacked during a check.

Tribute from the hierarchy and support for the family

Deeply affected by this loss, the Minister of Water and Forests, Jacques Assahoré Konan , reacted immediately:

  1. Government solidarity: A delegation led by the Director General of Forests and Wildlife was sent to the family of the deceased to offer the condolences of the State.
  2. Honoring the sacrifice: The minister paid tribute to the memory of a "courageous officer, who fell in the performance of his duties in service to the Nation" .
  3. Encouragement of the troops: A message of support was sent to the teams in the field, calling on them to remain united and determined in the face of the risks of the job.

Justice and continuation of operations

The minister firmly assured that joint measures were already being taken with the judicial authorities and security forces to shed full light on this tragedy and punish those responsible.

Despite this tragedy, the government's position remains inflexible: operations to secure and restore classified forests will continue firmly throughout the national territory, in order to preserve the forest heritage for future generations.
