Gaz butane : Coup d'arrêt aux réseaux clandestins à Akoupé et Abengourou
The fight against the illegal transfer of butane gas is intensifying in Ivory Coast. During a nighttime operation conducted between March 7 and 8, 2026 , the General Directorate of Hydrocarbons (DGH) struck a major blow in the localities of Akoupé and Abengourou.
The operation, conducted with the support of the Transnational Crime Unit (UTC), resulted in the neutralization of highly dangerous infrastructure:
Under the leadership of Minister Sangafowa-Coulibaly, authorities are increasing raids across the country. Recent figures have demonstrated the scale of the trafficking:
| City | Bottles seized | Dismantled equipment |
| Daloa | + 4,500 | ~ 20 machines |
| Aboisso & Samo | 3045 | ~ 10 machines |
| Yamoussoukro | ~ 2,500 | 24 machines |
| Gagnoa | 1036 | 13 machines |
The clandestine transfer of fuel, often used to illegally supply shared taxis, represents a major public danger. Carried out without any safety measures, these operations transform residential neighborhoods into high-risk zones for explosions , fires , and poisoning .
Through these hard-hitting actions, the government reaffirms its determination to dismantle these networks that sacrifice the safety of the population on the altar of illicit profit.
