To improve the economy and facilitate traffic flow, the Transport Fluidity Observatory (OFT) is taking a firm stance. An official map now limits the number of checkpoints to 33 across the entire country. Any other roadblocks are strictly illegal.

This major reform aims to eradicate clandestine checks that penalize economic operators and slow down the transport of people and goods. Welcomed by unions and economic stakeholders, this decision injects new dynamism into Ivorian competitiveness.

📍 The official map of the 33 authorized dams

To restore order, the OFT has sectorized legal controls across the country's major corridors:

  1. Northern Zone (9 dams): Tiéfinzo, Tengréla, Pogo, Minignan, Ouangolodougou, Boundiali, Ferkessédougou, Odienné and Korhogo.
  2. Southern Zone (8 dams): Gagnoa, Soubré, Elibou, Aboisso, Abidjan, Noé, San Pedro and Tabou.
  3. Central Zone (6 dams): Touba, Mankono, Niakaramandougou, Séguéla, Bouaké and Yamoussoukro.
  4. Western Zone (5 dams): Man, Danané, Duékoué, Toulepleu and Daloa.
  5. Northeast Zone (3 dams): Doropo, Bouna and Bondoukou.
  6. Eastern Zone (2 dams): Agnibilékrou and Abengourou.
📞 An anomaly? A racket? The OFT invites users to report any clandestine blockade or abuse by contacting the Centre for Alert and Assistance to Fluidity (CAAF) via the freephone number: 86090 .

📈 Direct relief for the economy and the average household budget

The end of the uncontrolled roadblocks eliminates a veritable "informal tax." Until now, the "hidden fees" extorted from truck drivers were directly passed on to the prices of essential consumer goods (food, cement, manufactured goods). This streamlining should lead to:

  1. A decrease in transport costs and, consequently, in the cost of living for households.
  2. Valuable time savings for strategic export products (coffee-cocoa, cashew nuts), avoiding quality losses en route to the ports of Abidjan and San Pedro.

🌍 Strengthening the West African logistics hub

By improving the flow of traffic on its roads, Ivory Coast secures its role as a maritime gateway for landlocked countries in the hinterland ( Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger ).

This courageous decision by the Ministry of Transport and the OFT not only accelerates regional trade and attracts foreign investment, but also secures state customs revenue. By adopting a zero-tolerance policy towards extortion, the Ivorian government is demonstrating a strong commitment to good governance.
