Tentative d’attentat à Jacqueville : Le Procureur promet une répression sans faille contre le terrorisme et les troubles
On the eve of the presidential election, the Public Prosecutor at the Abidjan Court of First Instance issued a stern warning against threats to public security, following a series of violence culminating in an attempted arson attack on critical gas infrastructure.
In an official statement issued this Friday, the Prosecutor strongly condemned the unrest that has erupted since the banning of the October 11, 2025 march. These acts, attributed to supporters of two political parties, include "assassinations, armed robberies, extortion, destruction and burning of public and private property, as well as serious violence against individuals." The Prosecutor also targeted the dissemination of false information aimed at "sowing psychosis and inciting insurrection, hatred and xenophobia."
The act of “particular gravity” in Avagou
The most alarming point reported by the Prosecutor is the attempted attack that occurred yesterday in Avagou, a village 9 km from Jacqueville. Individuals targeted the gas transfer chamber of the Foxtrot company.
Describing this act as "terrorism of particular gravity," the Prosecutor stressed that its success could have led to "catastrophic consequences ." Fortunately, the vigilance and "effectiveness of the security forces" made it possible to thwart the operation.
Justice provides a firm response
In the face of these threats, the state's response is already underway. The statement indicates that many of those responsible for the initial violence were quickly arrested by the defense and security forces, with judgments and sentences already handed down for some, while others are under judicial investigation.
The Public Prosecutor reaffirmed that this firmness will be maintained, particularly regarding the act of terrorism: "all the perpetrators, accomplices and sponsors of these acts will be sought and judged in accordance with the law." He insisted that justice will not remain "inactive in the face of these threats to the security of citizens and property."
Praising the "professionalism of law enforcement" for preventing major damage, this message serves as a strong signal as Côte d'Ivoire prepares to hold its presidential election. The protection of citizens and critical infrastructure remains a top national priority.
