Tragédie à Gouméré : Deux morts et plusieurs élèves fauchés devant le lycée

On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the lively morning atmosphere in front of the Gouméré Modern High School turned to horror. A particularly violent road accident claimed the lives of two people and injured several students, sparking a wave of outrage and grief within the educational community.

The drama film

The accident occurred around 8 a.m. , just as students were arriving at their classrooms. According to eyewitnesses:

  1. A motorcyclist attempted an evasive maneuver to avoid hitting a transport vehicle (commonly called a "Massa").
  2. Having lost control of his vehicle, he ended his wild ride by mowing down a group of students at the entrance to the school.
  3. The tragedy unfolded before the helpless eyes of the staff, including the headmaster, Mr. Doumbia Inza.

A painful human toll

The report indicates two fatalities:

  1. Kouakou Kouassi Orthinel , a young student in 6th grade, died instantly.
  2. The motorcyclist , who succumbed to his injuries shortly after the impact.

Three other students, also affected, were evacuated to health centers. Although their condition is considered stable today, the psychological impact on the school is immense.

Residents' anger: "Never again"

This latest tragedy has immediately reignited the debate on road safety around schools. While the local police have installed makeshift barriers to slow traffic in the immediate aftermath, the public is demanding long-term solutions.

  1. Structural improvements: Installation of speed bumps and "school zone" signs.
  2. Police presence: Increased surveillance during peak hours (entry and exit of classes).
  3. Awareness: A call for increased vigilance from "Massa" drivers and motorcyclists on busy roads.
"These temporary measures are insufficient. We need lasting measures to protect our children," insist the parents.
