In Abidjan, the Ministry of Urban Planning intervened urgently during the night of Saturday, July 4th to Sunday, July 5th, 2026. The cause: a high risk of landslide directly threatening three buildings in the area of the former Akouédo landfill. The occupants were evacuated immediately.

An imminent danger linked to soil instability

Led by the Urban Investigation and Control Brigade , this rescue operation follows alarming on-site inspections. Experts from the Ministry of Urban Planning, Housing and Living Environment (MULCV) observed a progressive landslide that was dangerously weakening the foundations of three buildings (a four-story building, a two-story building, and a single-story villa).

The situation is considered critical:

1. Proximity to the void: The dwellings are located only two meters from a ravine about twenty meters deep.
2. Aggravating factor: The natural instability of the site is greatly exacerbated by the heavy rainfall of the rainy season.

Immediate evacuation and safety measures

Given the seriousness of the situation, drastic precautionary measures were deployed immediately:

1. Raising awareness among residents about the risks involved.
2. An order for immediate evacuation has been issued to put families out of danger.
3. Building markings , now officially declared as risk zones, are prohibited from access.

This decisive intervention is part of the ministry's overall prevention strategy. Through increased monitoring and technical inspections, the Ivorian government aims to anticipate disasters linked to uncontrolled urbanization and soil insecurity in order to provide long-term protection for the population.
