Bobi Wine : « Je suis en fuite » — L'opposant ougandais appelle à la résistance

A week after Yoweri Museveni's victory was proclaimed, Uganda is sinking into a major political crisis. In an exclusive interview with RFI, Bobi Wine , the main opposition candidate, categorically rejects the official results and denounces a regime of terror.

A hunted leader, a besieged family

The former singer turned politician doesn't mince words: he now considers himself a hunted man.

  1. Precarious security: Bobi Wine claims to be on the run to escape the army.
  2. Domestic siege: His family is surrounded by military forces, deprived of freedom of movement and food supplies.
  3. Bloody repression: The opposition leader speaks of a "silent massacre", mentioning the death of more than 100 people and the arbitrary arrest of its leaders, including three vice-presidents of the NUP (National Unity Platform).

Massive fraud and denial of justice

Bobi Wine rejects the "terrorism" accusations made by the government and counterattacks on the grounds of electoral legitimacy.

  1. Evidence of fraud: He claims to possess dozens of videos showing state agents pre-checking ballots for Museveni.
  2. Judicial defiance: Contrary to custom, he refuses to appeal to the Supreme Court. For him, the Ugandan justice system is completely subservient to the outgoing president: "Our hope is not in the courts, but in the people," he insists.

The strategy: Civil disobedience and international pressure

Faced with what he calls an electoral heist, the opposition leader outlines his roadmap:

  1. Domestic action: He calls for civil disobedience and non-violent protests. The goal is to paralyze the regime through creativity and popular pressure, without waiting for the next elections in 2031.
  2. Appeal to Africa: He urges the continent's opposition to unite and inspire each other to overthrow dictatorships.
  3. Bobi Wine rebukes the West, denouncing a "double standard" on the part of the international community. He calls the leniency shown towards African dictators, while regimes like that of Lukashenko (Belarus) are firmly condemned, "racist."
“The standard of democracy in Africa must be the same as in Europe. Cooperating with dictators who shut down the internet and shoot their own people is unacceptable.” — Bobi Wine
