Burkina Faso : Nouveau carnage dans le village de Dourtenga
Burkina Faso, a member of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), is facing a new escalation of violence. An armed incursion, attributed to jihadist groups, claimed the lives of at least 12 people this weekend in the east-central part of the country.
The attack targeted the village of Dourtenga last Sunday. According to local and security sources:
Despite a fragile calm that returned on Monday, the local population began a mass exodus, fearing further reprisals. This attack is part of a series of offensives carried out throughout the weekend against regular forces and their civilian auxiliaries across the territory.
The country, under military transition since 2022, remains caught in a vice between factions linked to Al-Qaeda (notably JNIM) and the Islamic State .
| Indicator | Current situation |
| Human toll | Tens of thousands of deaths since 2015. |
| Demands | JNIM has intensified its actions, causing 130 deaths in 10 days recently. |
| Position of the Junta | Claims to control 75% of the territory and to have resettled 1 million displaced people. |
| Expert analysis | They highlight a spiral of uncontrolled violence, with an acceleration of deaths over the last 3 years. |
Contextual note: Burkina Faso relies on the mobilization of VDP (armed civilians) to support the army, but the latter pay a heavy price during jihadist incursions, becoming priority targets for armed groups.
