Cacao : le Ghana revoit fortement le prix aux producteurs
Ghana has decided to lower the farmgate price of cocoa to 41,392 cedis per tonne, or about 41 GHC per kilogram (nearly 2,124 CFA francs), for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season. This is a decrease of nearly 30% which comes after the collapse of world cocoa bean prices.
Having become too expensive for international buyers, Ghanaian cocoa was struggling to find buyers, leading to payment delays for producers and a liquidity crisis in the sector. This price adjustment therefore aims to make supply more competitive and revive purchases, while also allowing for the settlement of arrears owed to farmers.
This decision will, however, have a direct impact on cocoa farmers' incomes. Within the sub-region, it further widens the gap with Côte d'Ivoire, where the guaranteed price remains higher, against the backdrop of the risk of a resurgence in cross-border smuggling.
