Following the violent clashes that shook the town of Nsawam-Adoagyiri (Southeast Region) on July 7, 2026, Ghanaian security forces conducted a large-scale joint operation. Led by the Regional Command and the National Operations Directorate, this intervention resulted in the arrest of 258 people .

A heavy toll in terms of material and human lives

According to the official police statement released on July 9, the suspects are accused of terrorizing the population through a wave of vandalism and looting. Among the reported damages:

1. The ransacking of several businesses.
2. A transformer fire at the electric company ( ECG ).
3. The deterioration of Oko Anadwo's palace and a synthetic turf football pitch.
4. The assault and robbery of several mobile payment service providers.

Seizures and legal proceedings

During the searches and arrests, officers seized incriminating evidence:

1. Weapons: Two handcrafted firearms.
2. Drugs and medications: Suspected cannabis, as well as tramadol and Viagra tablets.
3. Equipment: Numerous mobile phones.

Current situation: All 258 individuals are in police custody. Interrogations are continuing to identify those who ordered the violence and to determine each person's responsibilities.

Calm has returned under surveillance

Although the situation is under control, a significant security presence remains deployed in Nsawam-Adoagyiri to prevent any resumption of hostilities and to protect citizens.

Local authorities are calling on the public, especially young people, to strictly respect the law and maintain peace. Police are also urging anyone with key information to come forward to assist the investigation.
