Mali : 82 camions-citernes escortés par l’armée brisent l’embargo du JNIM et ravitaillent Bamako
Bamako has finally breathed a sigh of relief. After more than two and a half months of severe fuel shortages, an exceptional convoy of 82 tanker trucks from Niger arrived this Saturday in the Malian capital under military escort .
A gesture of solidarity and strategic support, directly initiated by the Nigerien authorities, within the framework of strengthened cooperation within the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) . Nigerien President Abdourahamane Tiani personally authorized this donation of hydrocarbons, intended to alleviate the paralyzed economic and social activities in Bamako.
For weeks, the Malian capital had been experiencing a near-total disruption of fuel supplies due to a blockade imposed on roads by the jihadist group JNIM . This targeted embargo led to soaring prices, transportation difficulties, and considerable pressure on electricity production.
Faced with this situation, the authorities of both countries organized a military escort from Niamey to secure the convoy's passage through the red zones. The convoy's arrival prompted a significant security and institutional deployment in Bamako, marking a symbolic moment for the severely affected populations.
According to Malian authorities, this resupply represents more than a logistical operation: it is a political signal and an act of Sahelian solidarity , in a context of asymmetric warfare where fuel is now at the heart of the balance of power.
This support should help to temporarily ease the crisis, but the situation remains fragile as long as the main corridors remain threatened.
