Maltraitance d'un enfant talibé : Le Procureur du Faso prend des mesures fermes

The Prosecutor of Faso at the High Court (TGI) Ouaga I published a statement following a case of extremely serious abuse involving a Koranic teacher and a 13-year-old talibé child.

The case, revealed in October 2025, concerns a child who was sequestered, tied up and deprived of food by his Koranic teacher in the Sakoula district of Ouagadougou.

The facts and the intervention

  1. Victim and Aggressor : A 13-year-old talibé child. His Koranic teacher is the alleged perpetrator of the abuse.
  2. Nature of the abuse : Sequestration, tying up, deprivation of food, and torture which, according to the child's initial statements, were inflicted because he had not brought back the required sum of money .
  3. Consequences : The inflicted injuries caused advanced putrefaction of both hands , requiring emergency medical intervention to prevent amputation.
  4. Reporting and care : The Regional Child Protection Brigade of the Centre region was contacted by the Provincial Directorate of Humanitarian Action of Kadiogo. After an initial visit to the Red Cross, the child was transferred to Saint Camille Hospital in Ouagadougou where his condition is now stable .

The Quranic teacher in question was taken to the police by members of the Federation of Associations of Quranic Schools , a gesture welcomed by the Prosecutor as a testament to the community's vigilance.

Legal proceedings

On November 6, 2025, at the conclusion of the investigation, the Quranic teacher was brought before the prosecutor and placed under a detention order .

Intentional assault and battery Hearing of November 19, 2025

Warning and call for vigilance from the Prosecutor

In his statement, the Prosecutor of Faso denounced acts of unspeakable cruelty and a flagrant violation of children's rights .

Quote from the Prosecutor : "A child entrusted for their spiritual education is not a slave. Nor can they be used as a source of income. They are a human being whose dignity and physical integrity are inviolable."

The public prosecutor's office is issuing a solemn warning to anyone who, under the guise of religious teaching, exploits children for profit. It reiterates that inciting and exploiting child begging constitutes a severely punished criminal offense, with prison sentences ranging from one to ten years and substantial fines (Articles 511-14 et seq. of the Penal Code).

The Prosecutor affirms that his office will crack down without any weakness on anyone who "transforms a place of learning into hell for a child", and strongly encourages the public to report any case of violence, exploitation or abuse of children to the competent authorities (police, gendarmerie or social services).
