📢 Solidarité des ONG Marocaines avec l'Association Tunisienne des Femmes Démocrates (ATFD)

Nearly 70 Moroccan human rights and women's organizations and associations joined their voices in a statement of solidarity following the decision by Tunisian authorities to suspend the activities of the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women (ATFD) .

A United Front Against the Erosion of Freedoms

A total of 69 civil society organizations working to promote human and women's rights have officially expressed their full support and solidarity with ATFD. The signatories emphasized that this list remains open to any other organization wishing to join the appeal.

Moroccan associations described the suspension of the ATFD as:

  1. "A serious setback in terms of freedoms."
  2. "A direct attack on women's rights and democratic gains" obtained after many years of struggle by feminist and human rights movements.

The ATFD, created in 1989, is recognized by the signatory associations as a "historical and pioneering organization of the Maghreb feminist movement" . Its actions have transcended Tunisian borders to contribute to the fight against injustice and the defense of democracy and equality in the Maghreb and the region.

Call for Mobilization and Lifting of the Suspension

Reaffirming their support, Moroccan associations launched a firm appeal:

  1. The suspension of the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women must be lifted immediately .
  2. Guarantee of freedom of organization and expression in Tunisia.

They emphasized that "any attack on an independent feminist organization constitutes an attack on the entire feminist and human rights movement in the Maghreb region." They also reiterated that "the voice of the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women, like that of all independent civil society organizations, is essential to democratic life and the advancement of women's rights."

Exhortation to Regional and International Action

Faced with this situation, Moroccan organizations are calling for:

  1. The mobilization of feminist associations and human rights organizations to support Tunisian women and defend the independence of the civil movement.
  2. The intervention of regional and international institutions to "exert pressure to ensure that Tunisia respects its international commitments relating to fundamental freedoms and gender equality."
