Côte d’Ivoire : des projets ferroviaires structurants à l’étude autour du port de San Pedro
The Autonomous Port of San Pedro hosted, on January 20, 2026 , a joint delegation composed of the Japan International Cooperation Agency , the Ivorian Railway Promotion Company and the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs , as part of studies for major railway projects in preparation.
This mission is part of an ongoing discussion about strengthening the connectivity of the port of San Pedro with the interior of the country and the economic capital. Discussions focused in particular on the San Pedro – Man – Odienné and San Pedro – Abidjan railway projects, considered key infrastructure for supporting the growth of trade.
According to stakeholders, these projects aim to streamline the flow of goods , reduce pressure on the road network, and improve the port's logistical competitiveness. They could also play a strategic role in the transport of agricultural and mining products, while fostering the economic development of the regions they traverse.
During the visit, discussions focused on the technical, economic, and environmental aspects of the projects, as well as financing and implementation prospects. The goal is to have, following the studies, a solid basis for the authorities to decide on the realization of these large-scale rail infrastructures.
Through this approach, the port of San Pedro confirms its ambition to position itself as a major logistics hub serving national and regional economic development.
