Remblayage illégal :le Ministre Amadou Koné en mission de contrôle sur la lagune d’Abidjan
The Ivorian government is stepping up its vigilance against the illegal filling in of the lagoon area. On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs, Amadou Koné, accompanied by the Minister Delegate for Maritime Affairs, Célestin Serey Doh, conducted an inspection mission to several sites located in M'Pouto and Abatta.
The purpose of this visit was to assess the extent of the impacts caused by illegal landfill operations on the lagoon. Authorities noted, in particular, the progressive reduction of water levels, the degradation of ecosystems, the increased risk of flooding, and threats to navigation.
During this mission, Amadou Koné reiterated that landfill activities have been officially suspended since 2023. He emphasized the need to preserve this strategic natural area, stating:
"The lagoon area is a national heritage site. It cannot be occupied or modified outside the legal framework."
The community leaders met on site, for their part, expressed their commitment to support the State in the protection and preservation of the public lagoon domain.
This field visit reflects the authorities' commitment to combat illegal occupation and to sustainably protect the lagoon environment of Abidjan.
