Mondial 2026 : Un « marabout » promet la coupe à la Côte d'Ivoire contre 21 moutons (et ça fait bien rire le web)

A video that went viral on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, is causing a stir on Ivorian social media. A man calling himself "Dr. Cissé" claims to have the magic formula to win the 2026 World Cup for the Elephants. His price? A flock of 21 sheep .

Past "exploits" that were a little too opportunistic

Sporting a grey beard and wearing an orange t-shirt for the occasion, the famous doctor is no stranger to this kind of thing. In his video, he takes credit for having predicted the latest major triumphs in African football:

  1. CAN 2023: He claims to have broken an alleged spell cast by Akradjo to give Ivory Coast the victory (already against 21 sheep).
  2. AFCON 2025: He claims to have predicted the victory of Senegal's Lions of Teranga.
"I believe all of Africa will remember me. [...] I can help Ivory Coast win the World Cup with 21 sheep," he confidently declares to the camera.

A request that comes at the perfect time for Tabaski

If the "Doctor" hoped to be taken seriously, he failed. His statement triggered a wave of irony, especially as the Tabaski festival is fast approaching — a period when the price of livestock skyrockets in the markets of Abidjan.

Ivorian internet users, known for their biting humor, did not miss the opportunity to tease him:

  1. Alex Bilé: "Tabaski, you don't want to pay for a sheep, do you?"
  2. Thian Loh: "So if I understand correctly, you're counting on the FIF (Ivorian Football Federation) to celebrate Tabaski?"

Between mysticism and football folklore

Beyond the buzz and laughter, this sequence serves as a reminder of how deeply African football remains tied to popular beliefs and mysticism. It remains to be seen whether the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) will prefer to invest in on-field tactics or... in sheep farming.
